Are you thinking about moving to Florida full or part time? Already in the state but are looking to relocate? You should consider moving to Lutz, Florida. Why? There are several reasons to choose from.
Sitting less than 15 miles up the road from the heart of Tampa, Lutz is home to a little more than 20,000 residents. The suburb is rich in parks, has a solid school system, and is a great place to start or raise a family.
Located in Hillsborough County, Lutz’s origins trace back to the Tampa Northern Railroad and the small depot that was built in the area that is now known as the city. W.P. Lutz is given the credit for bringing the railroad to the area, so the town was named after him. While the original depot is no longer there, a replica was built at the turn of the century. Located at Lutz-Lake Fern Road and U.S. Highway 41, the replica (along with the original post office building that has since been turned into an art gallery) is part of an area that is now called “Beautiful Downtown Lutz.” You must stop here when you’re in town.

Before we get into some more of the practical reasons why Lutz is a great place to buy a home, here are a couple of fun facts:
First, if you go to Tinsmith Circle (part of the Carpenter’s Run area of town) you might think you have seen the background somewhere before, especially if you are a movie buff. You’d be right. Part of Edward Scissorhands was filmed there! Second, the area has a rather peculiar nickname. Lutz has been dubbed “Cactus Hat” in recent years because of the large volume of cleistocactus that are in the area for no apparent reason. It was first seen in Lutz in 2003 and no one really knows how it got there or why it is there.
As for the more practical reasons why you should call Lutz home, it was rated by Niche.com as the 28th best suburb in Florida (out of 380) to raise a family. It also cracked the top 600 (out of more than 12,000) on their list of best places to retire in America.
One of the reasons Lutz is rated so highly is its remarkable school system.
There are 3 “A” or “A-” rated high schools and 9 “A” or “A-” rated elementary schools within the city’s borders.
Both Steinbrenner High School and Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School are rated by Niche.com as two of the top-40 high schools in the state. The former is also rated the No. 2 public high school in Hillsborough County, while the latter is rated as the second best charter high schools in the Tampa area.
Niche.com rated Lutz as the 35th best suburb in Florida (out of 380) to buy a house. Most residents in the city own their own home so it’s a hot destination for home buyers. Don’t delay! Make sure to contact us and find out what houses are for sale in this lovely city just north of Tampa.
