So you’re thinking about moving to Florida or relocating within the state? Do you want all of the amenities of having a big city close by while avoiding most of the hustle and bustle that can bog you down? Look no further than Land O’ Lakes, Florida!
Located about 20 miles north of the heart of Tampa, Land O’ Lakes is home to a plethora of parks, a phenomenal school system, and a little more than 35,000 residents. Nestled in the southern portion of Pasco County, Land O’ Lakes is the perfect location if you’re thinking about starting a family, already have one or even if the kids are long gone.
You can’t come to Land O’ Lakes without visiting a couple of its main attractions: Dupree Gardens and Cypress Creek Preserve.
Dupree Gardens is a botanical gardens theme park that opened in December of 1940 but is long since abandoned. It holds the moniker of “Florida’s Original Roadside Tourist Attraction.” The garden was once 25 acres large, but the only parts that remain are its ticket booth and entrance sign. It’s a hot tourist spot.
Cypress Creek Preserve is 7,400 acres in size, open sunrise to sunset, and the perfect place for all of your recreational enjoyment needs. Are you into bicycling, inline skating, camping, equestrian, fishing or hiking? Cypress Creek Preserve is your new favorite place. The preserve has about 5 miles of paved and 11 miles of unpaved biking/inline skating trails, 14 miles of hiking trails and so much more. It’s also ADA accessible!
You also can’t beat the school system.
Land O’ Lakes’ High School was rated the No. 1 best public high school in the county by Niche.com. The other high school in town, Sunlake High School, was rated the No. 4 best public high school in the county. Both schools have fewer than 2,000 students and boast a student-to-teacher ratio below 20-to-1.
Land O’ Lakes is also home to a pair of highly-rated charter schools, Countryside Montessori and Imagine School at Land O’ Lakes. The former hosts grades 1-8 and was ranked in the top 4% in the state for elementary education and top 2% for middle school education based on their 2018 FSA scores. The latter serves grades K-8 and is six-time A-rated public charter. The city also has a pair of private schools within its borders: Academy at the Lakes and Land O Lakes Christian School.
That’s only some of what Land O’ Lakes has to offer!
There’s plenty more to do in Tampa and the surrounding areas. Just hop on U.S. Route 41 (Land O’ Lakes Boulevard) and head south — you’ll be in the city in about a half hour. Or you can head west and in less than an hour kiss the sand and soak up the rays at any of the numerous beaches along the Gulf of Mexico.
